4 Signs that You Need to Call Your Lawn Care Service

Here are four signs that you need to call your local lawn care service.

It does not take a grass expert to notice that something is not quite right with your lawn. If you have noticed brown spots, red patches, or mushrooms growing in your yard, you may have a serious problem on your hands. Fungi, mold, weeds, and invasive bugs can cause immense damage to your property if left unchecked. Here are four signs that you need to call your local lawn care service.

1. Red “Strings” on Your Lawn

If you have noticed a bunch of red string-like objects strewn about in spots on your lawn, your lawn may have red thread or pink patch disease. These are fungal infections that are common in cool and humid weather and are caused by two different fungi. These fungi can spread in rounded patches from a few inches to a few feet in diameter. They cause patchy grass death, and they can be difficult for inexperienced homeowners to eradicate on their own. If you see red threads on your lawn, contact your lawn care service for help.

2. Brown Patches

Brown patches on grass can be indicative of a few things, but if your individual blades of grass have light brown spots on them with dark brown edges, your grass may have brown patch disease. This is a fungus similar to the ones that cause red thread and pink patch disease, except brown patch thrives in warm and moist weather. While brown patch disease will not kill your lawn, it will severely damage its appearance. Your local lawn care professionals can help you decide which next steps are necessary to treat your lawn.

3. Grass that Looks Different

If you have patches of grass that look taller or thicker or that are a different shade of green, you may have a bluegrass or grassy weed taking over your lawn. Kentucky bluegrass, roughstalk bluegrass, crabgrass, bermudagrass, and more are different types of grasses that can make your lawn look uneven or inconsistent. These grassy weeds can even outcompete your lawn’s grass for resources.

4. Mushrooms

Mushrooms growing on your lawn might be fairly normal, especially after prolonged periods of rain or humidity. While large amounts of mushrooms suddenly sprouting up out of nowhere could be a sign of poor irrigation practices or drainage, mushrooms are likely harmless. If you are concerned that excess moisture is the cause of the mushrooms, or if you are worried about pets or children eating them, consult your lawn care service. Otherwise, simply kick aside any mushrooms you see and allow them to wither away.
